It has officially been revealed that South African star Bongokuhle Hlongwane's Minnesota United jersey has sold more than an FC Barcelona legend in Major League Soccer this season. Here's a look!
The story
The MLS confirmed their list of 25 players with the highest volume of jersey sales and Hlongwane was revealed to as the 22nd most successful player in this regard.
Notably, the KwaZulu-Natal native has had more jersey sales than Barca legend Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami in 2024. Hlongwane has also outsold his club's blockbuster signing last year, Teemu Pukki, who previously made a name for himself playing for Norwich City in the Premier League and EFL Championship in England.
What's more, no player at Minnesota sells more tops that the Bafana Bafana star and he is just one of six players aged 23 or under who made the list of top sellers.
Indeed this speaks to the former Marritzburg United star's undoubted popularity in the US. Although he has become somewhat of a cult favourite, more recent reports have linked him with a shock move to Turkey, with Trabzonspor reportedly interested in a potential transfer.
