The lucrative assets of an AFCON-winning baller

Being part of a side that has won the Africa Cup of Nations will go a long way to enhancing the CV of a professional footballer, but it also has very lavish off-field rewards.

Odilon Kossounou can now call himself an African champion after helping Ivory Coast's win what is arguably the continent's most prized trophy. The Elephants beat Nigeria by two goals to one, coming back from behind to reward the hope their nation had placed in them during a strenuous campaign.

Having achieved what he has with his national side, Kossounou has added a trophy to his already well-decorated cabinet considering he is just 23 years of age.

Prior to winning AFCON, the defender had twice won the Belgian Pro League with Club Brugge KV. He won the championship in 2020 and was a part of the squad that won it the very next season. He then won the Belgian Super Cup with his side the following season. He played for the Blauw-Zwart between 2019 and 2021, making 55 appearances for them before moving to Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where he and his team are also doing well. Die Werkself currently sit at the top of the league, five points ahead of giants Bayern Munich.

With an Africa Cup of Nations triumph to his name, Kossounou has improved his footballing CV by a considerable amount and is building himself to be a top class defender. That, of course comes with considerable benefits!

Apart from always being spotted in the most stunning of drip that shows off his ability to dress as well as most fashion enthusiasts, he can also be seen driving a swanky Mercedes, one that you could presume is befitting of his stature as a professional baller. As a result of his successful career that has brought him possessions in the form of silverware thus far, his gorgeous Mercedes AMG C-Class C63 S Coupe must be put up there in the list of belongings he has been able to attain thanks to a blossoming career in the sport.

With a top speed of 250km/h, the Ivorian will be zooming past people both on and off the field. In addition to its incredible speed, the car also has a flashy interior that consists of everything you could desire in a modern car that brings together the two worlds of comfort and performance. All of this, however, comes at a significant cost. According to AutoTrader, a 2023 model would cost someone around a whopping, wallet-burning R2.8 million.

Another benefit of the success he has attained this far is the willingness of global German multinational corporation PUMA to have him represent them as an athlete.

According to GiveMeSport, brand deals have made footballers considerable sums of money over the years with players like Neymar earning an estimated £23 million (around R551 million) per year from representing a company by wearing their boots.

This shows how lucrative any endorsement could prove to be for a player as they reap the rewards of their hard work. Kossounou, thus far, is proving to be a valuable asset for the brand he currently represents.
