WAGS set to bring majestic grandeur at AFCON podium day

With the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations set for a thrilling end this week, we've decided to take a look at the wives and girlfriends of footballers that fans can expect to see on the pitch well all is set and done.

The story

The 2023 Rugby World Cup painted a very beautiful and enviably romantic picture of the stars that played at the tournament. Almost all of the Springboks players were seen with their partners and children at the end of every match, however, when it comes to soccer and in South Africa in particular, it's a slightly different picture.

Mzansi football stars have shown a reluctance to reveal or openly love their partners, with many having never even posted a picture of them on their social media channels. It's unclear why this is the case or it could simply be a matter of wanting to keep a relationship secret.

For example, it's been well over a year since rumours that Thembinkosi Nkosi is dating actress Natasha Thahane but it's hard to recall the two openly declaring their relationship, let alone post a clear image of each other.

The same could be said when it comes to Bongani Zungu, who was also rumoured to be dating actress Cindy Mahlangu for a long time before they made a public appearance together. Perhaps, this is a working formula for some local stars, especially those who are unmarried.

Nevertheless, a tournament like AFCON has plenty of room for WAGS to shine, as international tournaments are also best savoured in the company of loved ones.

With South Africa, DR Congo, Nigeria, and Cote d'Ivoire still to play matches for the podium spots, here's a quick look at the WAGS associated with the remaining four teams.
