Magesi to go for Cup title after Pirates scalping?

Magesi head coach Clinton Larsen has downplayed suggestions that his side can all the way to win the Carling Knockout after dumping out one of the tournament's favourites and cup specialists Orlando Pirates.

Magesi dished up the first upset of the Carling Knockout with a surprise 3-2 slapping of Pirates thanks to goals from Delano Abrahams strike, a penalty from Edmore Chirambadare and Thabiso Sesane's own goal.

The Soweto giants fought to get back into the match as Evidence Makgopa and Kabelo Dlamini both found the back of the net, but it was not to be as the match ended 3-2.

Heading into the match, Pirates were considered one of the favourites, having established themselves as cup specialists and having already won the MTN8 title.

Speaking to media after the match, Larsen insisted that he is keeping his feet on the ground with regards to title ambitions, despite taking out one of the competition heavyweights.

"Firstly, I'm not naive to think that this victory means we can win the cup, I'm not naive.

"What this victory does is give us a little bit of spring in our step and look forward to the next match, try and put on a better performance than we did and see what happens.

"We're the rookies in the league, first time in the cup, first time in the league so we've got to earn our respect and work hard to earn that respect from our peers and we will continue to do that, hopefully with more victories in the future.

"But I am not naive and neither is our club to think that now we can go and beat anybody because we have beaten Orlando Pirates. It's a feather in our cap, yes.

"But every game is different so we just have to wait for our next opponents and try and prepare as best as we can and give an honest performance like we did [against Pirates].

Having booked their seats in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout, Magesi have been drawn against last year's finalists TS Galaxy, in the last eight.
