Da Gama: Look at Ancelotti, how old is he?

Reigning Coach of the Month Owen Da Gama has revealed what has enables him to survive in today's game despite being viewed by some as one of the 'old-school coaches'.

Da Gama feels his recent achievement proves that the old generation of coaches deserves a place in the Betway Premiership.

Last week's Coach of the Month award was Da Gama's 16th in his coaching career.

Magesi won four of their five matches, which saw the club jump from being relegation candidates to now sitting four points behind the top eight in 11th position.

"I have got 15 coach of the month awards already, that's if you go back to the days of Silver Stars," Da Gama tells KickOff.

"In 2006 I was coach of the year in South Africa. I was still with Silver Stars.

"I'm determined by results. I don't care what anybody says; you can be young school or old school. If I've got a good result, I've got a good result.

"This thing of old school coaches and new school of coaches doesn't work in football.

"Look at Carlo Ancelotti, the guy who's won the most Champions League in the world. How old is he?

"Age is nothing but a number; the most important thing is what you do on the job field. And if there's one thing you cannot buy, it is experience.

"It's the methodology, I evolve with the game. Remember I was in Spain last year, to understand and to upgrade myself, and to keep in touch with the latest methods of football.

"Spanish football at the moment is at the forefront; they won the Olympics, they won the Euros, they've won the Champions League more than any other country in the world.

"So, for me, I evolve with the game; I can't talk for the other coaches. I evolve with the game, I don't come with methods of 2000 years ago. Evolve with the game, that is important.

"I have got a CAF A License; I was disappointed I was not invited for the CAF A refresher course; there are lots of coaches who are not even coaching that were invited for the refresher course.

"I'm very disappointed in that, but I understand it's part of the game, I've got my CAF A License, and then I've got my SPFS license, which is a Spanish license.

"My biggest ambition is to save Magesí from relegation. I'm not here for personal accolades; the only thing I still wish to achieve is a PSL title. I have won every other league I have coached in previously.

"I have won the ABC Motsepe League with Silver Stars, the NFD I have won it three times, the closest I got to winning the PSL title was in 2006 with Silver Stars when we came second.

"My ambition is to win every League in South Africa, now I want the PSL. There is no time frame, though; everything is in God's hand; I can die tomorrow [laughs]."
