10 up for sacked Downs coach…

Romain Folz was not even 30 upon getting into his first coaching job in Africa in 2019 when he was brought in as an assistant in the Uganda national team.

Folz came in as an assistant to fellow Frenchman Sebastien Desabre working in the East African country from January 2019 to June of the same year.

Fast-forward to December 2024, Folz is now 34 and has already had 10 coaching stints on the continent.

Since that job with the Ugandan Cranes, he moved along as Desabre's assistant to Pyramids FC in Egypt, where he worked from August 2019 to the end of that year.

Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League then called out for his services as head coach from January 2020 to July of the same year.

His next job on the continent was at Ashanti Gold SC, where he worked for less than two months as the head coach.

Another Frenchman, Corentin Martins, recruited him to be his assistant in Mauritania, before also working under another two coaches during a spell lasting only six months.

Straight out of that assistant job, he joined Township Rollers as head coach in Botswana but also lasted six months there until June 2022 when Marumo Gallants then came calling for his services.

Six games into his stay at Marumo, he was gone and five weeks later took over at AmaZulu FC.

Folz lasted six months as head coach at Usuthu, after which he took over at Horoya AC in Guinea from August-October 2023.

On July 22 this year, he was then surprisingly confirmed as an assistant at Mamelodi Sundowns but has since been shown the exit before the end of the year.

This means with all his 10 jobs in Africa since he arrived in 2019, he hasn't lasted a year in any, raising questions about what happens with the contracts that he would have signed in all those jobs.
