New gig for forgotten Fanteni

Thembinkosi 'Terror' Fanteni has resurfaced in the football circles after taking up a coaching opportunity with a Cape Town based high-performance initiative.

Fanteni earned 21 Bafana Bafana caps through his prime, which included playing in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup after playing all the games at the AFCON finals the previous year.

It was a career that took him from Ajax Cape Town to Israel club Maccabi Haifa in its prime before spending time at Orlando Pirates, Ajax, and Bidvest Wits.

Now 40, Fanteni last played in the professional ranks during the 2012/13 season, after which he then had a stint with Steenberg United in the third-tier league.

With a dozen years having passed since he was last in action, he has now taken up a coaching post with the M8 High performance football programme, where he joins Mario Booysen.

Muhsin Ertugral is the technical director.

"Terror now joins Mario Booysen," confirms Gary Cassisa, the director of Mede8 Sports Agency.

"The programme runs from Monday to Friday and is aimed at developing young footballers into future professionals.

"We are not a development club but focus on training and development through High Performance.

"The programme has been running for a few months here in Rondebosch and we have sent players to join up with professional clubs from the amateur ranks.

"Connor Jales is a product of this programme, an 18-year-old striker who signed with Baroka FC a few weeks ago and made his debut in the Nedbank Cup (qualification round) last week," says Cassisa.
