Sundowns star receives huge CAF nomination

Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been named among the nominees for the CAF Men's Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Williams joined the Brazilians at the start of the 22/23 campaign and has become a key figure for the DStv Premiership-winning Sundowns.

The shot stopper made 38 appearances for Sundowns last season, keeping 22 clean sheets and conceding 23 goals in a side that went as far as the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.

In May, the 31-year-old shot-stopper made history by becoming the first goalkeeper to keep 18 clean sheets in a single Premier Soccer League campaign.

Alongside Williams, teammate Peter Shalulile is nominated for the Player of the Season award, as is Kaizer Chiefs' Ranga Chivaviro and Al Ahly's Percy Tau.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants have also received nominations for the CAF Men's Club of the Year.

Despite their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Gallants enjoyed a spirited run in the CAF Confederations Cup, going as far as the semi-finals where they lost out to eventual champions Young Africans.
