Ejike Uzoenyi might have had little impact at Mamelodi Sundowns but is a player that arrived at Chloorkop after vigorous efforts from the club authorities.
Uzoenyi was named the best player at the 2014 CHAN finals played in South Africa having also featured when the Super Eagles lifted the AFCON the previous year before going on to play at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

At the start of the 2014/15 season, it meant Sundowns had a footballer who had just come from playing at the World Cup for Nigeria which benefitted the club.
"Sundowns went out of their way to sign me after I played at the CHAN tournament because they knew that if they delayed and I went to the World Cup they wouldn't get me," says Uzoenyi.
So, it then happened that Uzoenyi signed in February 2014 then spent the remainder of the season on loan at Enugu Rangers before returning for pre-season.
"Sundowns made sure that the moment I landed in Johannesburg from Cape Town after the CHAN, they pulled me aside, kept me in a hotel and completed my signing and booking another flight ticket for me.
"If I had travelled back to Nigeria after CHAN, I would have ended up going to Europe, but they made sure that they secure my signature before I leave the country.
"There was interest from Europe but then Sundowns won me over with how they conducted themselves.
"But truth is that at that time in Nigeria, we knew more about (Orlando) Pirates than other team in SA, but I had to settle for Sundowns.

"I didn't come to Sundowns because of money because I had a better paying option in Europe which I didn't take.
"In the end it didn't work out and they spoke about termination before I ended up at Wits after having trained with SuperSport United when Stuart Baxter was at the club.
"Baxter really wanted me and saw me as a guy who wanted to compete, but it didn't work out, so I went to Wits.
"At Wits, it was a short loan contract because they feared what I was earning at Sundowns having come to Chloorkop after I had played at the World Cup.
"It was the same at Ajax Cape Town where I didn't even care what I was earning because it didn't compare to Sundowns.
"At Ajax, It wasn't even half of what I got at Sundowns.
"Being at Ajax wasn't about money because coming to South Africa in the first place wasn't about money because I had experienced better money in France," says Uzoenyi while then touching on money.

"When you have tasted money, you want to make more, and you will never get tired of making money.
"Have you ever heard of someone saying no to money?
"This is professional football so you need money to survive though that shouldn't be your only motivation.
"If you just focus on money then you will play football but if you focus on playing then money will come.
"That is how it works in football.

"Even with clubs that have problems paying players, they always prioritise paying those that are playing.
"If you are the best player in the team and giving them results then you will be fine," says Uzoenyi.
