Mokwena hails record-breaking Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns seem to be cruising through the DStv Premiership once again after defeating SuperSport United in the Tshwane Derby on Wednesday, establishing a new club record.

Sundowns maintain an undefeated streak in the DStv Premiership, having emerged victorious in all nine of their league games this season.

The Brazilians have already secured the African Football League title and are currently participating in the CAF Champions League, where they have successfully advanced to the group stages.

The Tshwane giants have hit the back of the net 19 times, while conceding only three goals in the DStv Premiership so far.

They are closely trailed by Cape Town City and SuperSport United in terms of the highest goals scored this season, with both clubs having netted 16 goals each.

Masandawana coach Rulani Mokwena has showered praise on his players for their outstanding achievements, breaking several records this season.

"Congratulations to the football club, the technical team, and the players, who are consistently an incredible team with remarkable individuals.

Of course, we also extend our congratulations to the supporters for securing the bragging rights in the derby, which is very significant," said Mokwena during the press conference after the Tshwane derby in Atteridgeville on Wednesday.

"I congratulate the team for setting another record - nine straight wins for the first time, a feat that has stood for two decades.

"It's incredible to witness what this group continues to achieve, driven by their hunger and desire to keep going," he added.

The Brazilians are scheduled to travel to DR Congo today for the CAF Champions League match against TP Mazembe on Saturday.
