Ribeiro’s career best at Downs comes with Brazilian recognition

As Mamelodi Sundowns prepare for their long trip to Tunis, Lucas Ribeiro Costa will do so with this season counting as the best of his career to date across all aspects of his game.

Ribeiro is in his second season at Sundowns where he is chasing glory in the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and the CAF Champions League before he heads to the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Brazilian's time at Chloorkop has been so enjoyable that it doesn't compare to any of the clubs that he has been with in France and Belgum.

As it stands, Ribeiro will hold this season dearly having moved tops in ticking all the boxes.

If it is the number of games played being considered, the 26-year-old is on a career high of 37 and still counting.

That appearance count will stretch towards 50 with Sundowns still having seven to play in the league, at least one each in the Nedbank Cup and Champions League plus the Club World Cup.

For goals, he is currently at a career high of 16 and still counting.

His assists numbers are also on double figures standing at 10 to date.

Ribeiro has never reached such highs in his career from his time at Valenciennes in France through to all the clubs he played for in Belgium including his best spell in the second division while at SK Beveren when he scored 11 and provided 11 assists.

With what is happening at Sundowns, there has been mention of his name in the state of Maranhao.

Ribeiro Costa hails from Santa Helena and played for the juniors of Pinheiro Atletico Clube whose first team plays state football.

According to a former PSL footballer, who has travelled to that part of Brazil in recent days, Ribeiro Costa has been getting mentioned in passing at Pinheiro and by community publications.

In the state media his name was also mentioned in the list of Brazilians from different clubs heading for the Club World Cup.
