Rulani gives insight of Tshwane derby and title race

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has given insight into SuperSport United head of the Tshwane derby today with the title destiny race already taking a familiar route.

A rare Monday evening meeting between the two Tshwane clubs is on the menu today at Loftus (18h00).

It is a game that comes with The Brazilians having already gathered 40 points from 16 games and against one of two clubs that they have lost to this season after Matsatsantsa recorded a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture.

This time Sundowns have won 10 games in a row and are on the verge of setting a record 11 consecutive wins in the league during the same season.

"They (SuperSport United) are a complex team with strengths that go a little bit in contradiction to the profile at times," reasons Mokwena.

Matsatsantsa sit third on the standings 13 points behind the leaders though they have played a game less under Gavin Hunt.

"One of their strengths is that they have an experienced coach who knows how to win so we expect a very difficult match.

"In the media, Gavin says there is no title race but to his players, I can tell you that he says the title race is on and he still believes the title race.

"I say to the players that there is no title that has ever been won in January and this is what our mentality is and what we are talking about.

"It takes more than 40 points to win a title," says Mokwena who was still a co-coach when they suffered defeat in the last league match and insists that they are not motivated by the need for revenge.

Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns celebrates go

"We were very sloppy with our passes and the mentality was not right when we lost.

"We don't get motivated by revenge because motivation comes from a darker side.

"We are motivated by our goals and ambitions and what we want to achieve and that comes from a lighter side.

"We love to be people that are positive and optimistic in spaces of looking at things from a lighter side than a darker side," he says.
