Cardoso responds to meeting former employers

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has made emphasis on the need to worry about what they are doing after being drawn to play against his former club Esperance.

Sundowns' CAF Champions League quarterfinal will start in Pretoria on April 1, before the second leg in Tunis on April 8.

Whoever wins that tie then comes up against Al Ahly or Al Hilal in the semis.

"I think it was clear that all the three teams that we could have picked were very strong," says Cardoso.

"I didn't want to play (Orlando) Pirates because I think it is much more beautiful for the competition that we don't have, let's say, a national game but we make it international.

"So, it didn't happen and so basically there were two teams, Esperance, or Al Hilal, and both of them different teams but both of them strong.

"The team [Esperance] has changed a bit in January, so we have to take a look at the players, but I confess that I haven't seen them much after I left to come here.

"I didn't watch nothing in terms of how they play.

"I have been following their results, but I didn't see any games to know how they are playing.

"I know they are doing well and in the first position and made a good qualification in a simple group.

"It is a team with experience and a team that has been reaching the last stages of the Champions League and always has the will to do well.

"I think we should worry about ourselves and worry about the fact that we can arrive at the two games and make two very good games to get a good result.

"Our ambition is to approach the games in the right way.

"It will be tight but beautiful to see because both teams play good football and positive in the approach.

"The ambiance over there is different to here but hope our fans give us the extra energy.

"The Champions League is stronger this year," says Cardoso.
