Monumental feat for Cardoso at Downs…

Miguel Cardoso's latest league match at Mamelodi Sundowns will come with the pleasure of sealing what all but one of the clubs in the Betway Premiership have achieved this season.

Sundowns are at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium this evening (19:30), where Sekhukhune United will be the hosts after the trip on the N1 North from their base in Chloorkop.

It is a match which stands to take them to a cushion of a 15-point gap over Orlando Pirates, who will have played four games less.

Should they win, it will also come with the treasures of taking them past 50 points before they have played 20 matches.

Beyond that, there will be toss-of-the-coin selection decisions for Cardoso, whose club has Kaizer Chiefs as an opponent on Saturday with seven players on three yellow cards and risking suspension if they get a fourth.

The fixture against Sekhukhune adds the cherry of a 10th win chase for the Portuguese in only 11 league matches.

By getting to 10 victories, he will have already surpassed what all other clubs have under the win column this season besides Orlando Pirates (12 wins).

Cardoso only took over in December at Sundowns but has won nine and lost once in 10 league matches, collecting 27 points.

With those 27 points gathered in 10 games, the 52-year-old would still have the Tshwane giants challenging for the title and better off than Chiefs.

The Brazilians had 21 points from eight matches when Cardoso took over.

Of interest is that Sundowns have already beaten all but one of their 15 opponents in the league with Chippa United the only survivors as they are yet to play the defending champions.

Peter Shalulile will go into this evening's match with interests of reaching 100 goals for Sundowns.

The Namibian is on 99 at present, which he has reached in only 190 appearances.
