Sundowns coach's regret after Galaxy loss

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has revealed his regret after a narrow Betway Premiership loss to TS Galaxy.

Sundowns missed the chance to open a 12-point lead at the top of the table and over rivals Orlando Pirates after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Galaxy.

The loss ended their 10-game winning streak in the Betway Premiership and was the first league stumble for Cardoso since he replaced Manqoba Mngqithi.

The Portuguese mentor admitted after the game he could have rotated his team, after a two-day turnaround from their 4-1 win over Orlando Pirates last Saturday.

"I don't think so (changes affects the rhythm). At the end of the game, I saw I should have actually changed three or four players for sure, that's my (regret)," Cardoso told journalists at Mbombela Stadium.

"But you know when you speak at the end, it's so easy to speak. Our thought was to bring players who finished with the excellent energy the last one.

"We wanted the players to have the responsibility, that consistency and the drive. The players made the first half that was not easy, many times a line of six, the wingbacks following our fullbacks, making it an offensive line of six, quite difficult to overcome.

"That's why so many draws (of TS Galaxy), it's not easy to win against this team because of the way they organize themselves defensively. But it's always easy to speak at the end of the game."

Cardoso also addressed insinuations that his charges could have underestimated the Rockets.

"Our attitude is always try to make our best, we work very hard and the players did their best. On the other side, there are no small teams, they are players with spirit and TS Galaxy had the spirit.

"We also had it, it was a good game in terms of determination. Nothing more to say. Technically, not well played, but the condition (of players) very hard for us."
