Mshishi reveals Mngqithi factor and retirement plans

The start of the new season will double up as the 15th that Themba Zwane has spent under contract at Mamelodi Sundowns.

This naturally makes Zwane a respected figure in the dressing room before consideration is made to what he does on the field.

By the time Sundowns get going in the MTN8 against Polokwane City on August 11, he will have turned 35 and welcoming back Manqoba Mngqithi as the head coach after he was relegated when Rulani Mokwena took over.

For all the 10 full seasons that Mngqithi has been at Sundowns, Zwane has also been at the club, so he is well-equipped to answer questions on his coach.

"For me, it was easy because we know what he expects from us.

"The changes are not that much," notes Zwane, who has had contract-related tensions in recent months and is aiming to add to his winners' medal collection while remaining relevant in the Bafana Bafana squad.

The new season is the optional year on his contract, which will come after having won 17 trophies while reporting for duty at Chloorkop.

"I'm happy because my aim is to finish my career at Sundowns.

"But not only finish it (at Sundowns) but also finish on a high note.

"I got another opportunity to work hard and contribute to the team," said Zwane, speaking during the MTN8 launch on Wednesday.
