Mamelodi Sundowns Sporting Director Flemming Berg has provided more insight into the club's decision to part ways with now-former head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, as a new reign begins under Miguel Cardoso.
In a shocking development, Sundowns held a press conference at their Chloorkop base on Tuesday to unveil new head coach Miguel Cardoso.
The Portuguese-born mentor comes in as a replacement for Mngqithi.

It was revealed during the press conference that the club's hierarchy had deemed recent results unsatisfactory or 'not heading in the right direction' under the Umzimkhulu-born tactician.
Some sections of the Yellow Nation believed many of the club's decisions have been made by the Sporting Director.
However, Berg was quick to quash such suggestions.
"When it comes to responsibilities in this Football Club, this club is about collectivity, it's a collective effort," Berg told journalists.
"We bring a lot of different knowledge, opinions, and recommendations to the table and then a decision of this magnitude is taken by the board. That is how this club works.
"I know there have been talks earlier about saying: 'No, Flemming did this, Flemming did that', but it doesn't work like that in this Football Club. You will estimate a lot about this club if you think about it. This club is much bigger than that.
This is the same sentiment he expressed at the Business of Football network session that took place in November, where the question was posed to the Danish as to his exact role at the club.
"So, I take all the responsibility that I can, but the most important thing to say here is that I would not buy the narrative of failure - not at all - as it was said. The key to success for a company or a Football Club is always to find out when the curve will start going down," he said.
Berg added, "And then the investments have to happen before the curve starts going down and you cannot be too late before it's actually very late. So, I think we are in a better place and a lot of credit must go to the previous coaches because we are in a significant place."

Alongside Mngqithi, assistant coach Romain Folz and goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson have also been let go.
Meanwhile, Steve Komphela and Kennedy Mweene have been retained as part of the new technical team.
