Downs delivery issues ahead of Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns are resembling a short-staffed post office ahead of their Betway Premiership clash against the inconsistent Kaizer Chiefs.

The log leaders will be without the man nicknamed 'Postman', Aubrey Modiba, for the fixture against Chiefs at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

He received his fourth yellow card during Wednesday's 4-2 win over Sekhukhune United at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, and his suspension has left Sundowns thin at left-back, and it remains to be seen who will be handed 'delivery' responsibilities.

Only Divine Lunga and 19-year-old Asekho Tiwani are available as options.

Their other left-back, Terrence Mashego, is expected to be on national duty with Bafana Bafana as they face Egypt in a CHAN qualifier on Sunday.

Club legend Eric Ramasike believes it is not a train smash, however.

"Sundowns have capable players who can easily replace Aubrey Modiba. We will manage without him," says Ramasike, himself a marauding left-back in his heyday.

"We have suitable substitutes in the left-back position. Against Chiefs, we should start with Lunga, who is an excellent player.

"I admire the way he plays. He rarely loses possession and doesn't rush his decisions, unlike Mashego, who can get a bit overexcited with the ball at times.

"Lunga, when in possession, plays one-twos and looks to go wide if the opposition puts pressure on him. He doesn't force plays.

"The Sundowns coach and his technical team are quite astute. You saw how they rested players like Lucas Ribeiro (Costa) in the second half against Sekhukhune. They are managing the players well to prevent fatigue.

"He could have played Lunga yesterday to save Modiba for the big match on Saturday, but he took a chance, wanting the three points. He trusts all his players, so there's no need to stress about that," stresses Ramasike.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
