With the 2023/24 season done and dusted, what remains is a crucial few weeks where most player contracts reach their sell-by date, and among those is one Themba Zwane, the Mamelodi Sundowns talisman. KickOff has the latest regarding his future.
At 34, Zwane proved once again that form is temporary, class permanent after scoring the only goal for Bafana Bafana in their 1-1 draw against Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday. In typical composed fashion, 'Mshishi' glided past a couple of challenges in the box before firing home the opener.

He may not only be playing out of his skin to prove to the South African public that he is still a man for the big occasion, but also has something to prove to his primary employers Sundowns, where his contract is reaching expiry come 30 June.
In spite of his age, Zwane has remained an important member of The Brazilians' squad after featuring in 18 league matches, seven domestic cup games and 16 continental encounters.
That brings his tally of games played in the just ended campaign to 41.
Despite the Bafana Bafana midfielder being made captain of a hugely talented Sundowns squad, his impact on the pitch has been somewhat minimal, after finishing the DStv Premiership campaign without a goal, with his two strikes in this past season coming from domestic competitions.
However, this website can exclusively reveal that Zwane's camp are currently in negotiations with the club's management over a new contract extension.
Furthermore, indications from sources are that the decorated midfielder's future should become clearer this week following the contract talks.
