Kerr: Would Pitso, Riveiro, Mourinho accept it?

In an exclusive interview, former Marumo Gallants head coach Dylan Kerr has opened up on his decision to leave his post, which he says was "ethically and morally the right thing to do".

KickOff confirmed the news on Tuesday from Kerr himself that he had left his role as the head coach of Gallants with immediate effect, without going into details.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa subsequently released the statement that the English coach left the club due to disagreements over the decision to appoint co-coaches ahead of the 2024/25 season.

In a contradictory statement, Gallants announced that they had appointed Dan Malesela as the club's new head coach.

Speaking to this website on Wednesday, Malesela revealed, contrary to the club's statement, that he was yet to agree on terms with the Limpopo side, now based in Free State.

Kerr has opened up on his decision to leave the club, as he felt the arrangement of co-coaching was not something he was briefed about when he re-joined the team and no top coach would  agree to the co-coach system anyway.

"It was the right thing to do, it was ethically and morally the right thing to do. Would Gavin Hunt, would [Sead] Ramovic, would Eric Tinkler, would [Jose] Riveiro, would Pitso [Mosimane], would Rulani [Mokwena], would Steve [Komphela], would Manqoba [Mngqithi], would Vusimuzi [Vilakazi], would Phuti [Mohafe], would Clinton [Larsen], would [Jose] Mourinho, [Jurgen] Klopp, Arsene Wenger, you name them, all these coaches," Kerr opened up to KickOff.

"Would they work with co-coaches or work with their own technical team, that are trusted and are on the same wavelength as you? Or you've got people you've been given, you don't know much about their background and you've got to work with them?

"It morally and ethically go against everything I stand for in the game of football. From building a reputation as a player, to coach in South Africa, inheriting a team that's not promoted from the NFD, a status bought and continue to have the belief that NFD team which struggled last season and nearly got relegated last season, can play in the PSL, it goes against everything I love about the game," Kerr added.
