Kerr was announced as a new coach for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa at the beginning of this month and only to resign from the hot seat a few weeks later.
Malesela is returning to Marumo Gallants for the second spell after coaching the club before being relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The former Orlando Pirates captain is expected to report for work before the end of the week to help the club continue with their preparations for the new season.
"The club has approached Dan Malesela. The negotiations are going well, and he could be appointed as the new coach of Marumo Gallants before the end of this week,"said the source.
The club have confirmed Malesela's appointment on Tuesday afternoon, after confirming Kerr's departure due to disagreements about co-coaching and other management processes.
Meanwhile Dylan Kerr has declined to comment about his departure from Marumo Gallants.
