Baroka new coach appointment explained

The chairman of Baroka FC, Khurishi Mphahlele, has explained his decision to appoint Joel 'Moporofita' Masutha as the team's new head coach.

Masutha was present in the stands when Baroka secured a 3-1 victory against Leruma United on Saturday, thanks to their goal poacher Jackie 'Sniper' Mothipi's brace.

He has now scored three goals so far this season, following an initial strike by Thuso Mogale.

Masutha was introduced to the team only at the end of the match.

"I mentioned from the beginning that the current coach was only taking over on an interim basis," opens up Mphahlele, speaking exclusively to KickOff.com.

"Since then, we have been actively searching for a head coach, and our choice fell on Joel Masutha due to his impressive track record.

"Masutha has the experience we need. He successfully promoted a team from the National First Division to the PSL [topflight] and has coached in both the Premier Soccer League and the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

"He is well-acquainted with the league's dynamics, which is why we chose him. We believe we belong in the top league and not in a lower division.

"However, on Saturday, he was not coaching the team. He watched the match alongside me from the stands. The interim coach led us to victory against Leruma, unaware that a new coach was observing from above. I introduced Masutha to the team only after the match. While 'JJ' [Foster Hlongwane] is a good coach, he lacks experience. He is young and still has much to learn," added Mphahlele.

Masutha has previously coached teams such as Chippa United, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzhivhandila, and Black Leopards.
