Pound for pound: 'We'll play like Chiefs, Sundowns and Pirates'

Baroka FC head coach Morgan Mammila has said Baroka FC will be aiming to emulate South Africa's traditional Big Three in their approach to matches this season as they look to secure automatic promotion.

The Limpopo-based outfit narrowly missed out on promotion to the topflight after failing to win the Relegation/Promotional Play-offs, which saw Richards Bay FC maintain their Premiership status.

Speaking to media at the club's recent Mafori Group sponsorship launch, Mammila revealed that he has set his sights on sealing automatic promotion.

"My target is 20. I have to win 20 matches; 20 points in 30 matches, that's 60 points," the coach told journalists.

"We are not going to play for a draw, we are going to play like [Mamelodi Sundowns], like Kaizer Chiefs, like [Orlando] Pirates. They don't go to a match and look for a draw. We are a big team in this division, so are we going to play to win all the matches.

"I think with the quality we have, we can win 20 matches, get 60 points and win the league," he added.

Bakgaga also used the event to unveil their new players, which include former Bucs and Amakhosi striker Siphelele Mthembu, as well as midfielder Collins Makgaka, who was also on Pirates' books in recent times.

"I came here, I assessed the team, I think the team needed to improve in certain areas and hence I went for experience," said Mammila.

Baroka begin their new conquest for the Motsepe Foundation Championship title with a clash against Orbit College on Sunday.

Kick off is scheduled for 15:00.
