Stellies advised how to catch Downs off-guard

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Clayton Daniels has given their opponents for Wednesday's MTN8 semi-final first leg, Stellenbosch FC, advice on how to get the better of last year's finalists at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Stellenbosch completed Cupido's deal, though it is not clear yet if he has traveled to Gauteng to join his teammates for tonight's match.

He is seen as a direct replacement for Iqraam Rayners, who has since departed for to Sundowns.

The Brazilians host the tricky Western Cape side in the first leg club, before travelling to Durban for the second leg on Sunday.

"It's going to be an interesting, tough game, but I give it to Sundowns. The Sky is the Limit going to take this one," Daniels says as he sits down for a preview with KickOff.

"Ashley Cupido, why not throw him in there tonight? He can be a surprise package. You might never know. But I think he's a perfect replacement for Iqraam Rayners.

"He is a similar type of player like-for-like, he is gonna fit in perfectly. I watched the last game between the two teams at Athlone Stadium, where Stellenbosch was giving Sundowns a good run for their money," he adds.

Daniels, though, feels this being a two-legged encounter gives it a different spin altogether.

"Sundowns will want to have a good start, so they know when they come for the second leg, they are looking only for a draw.

"Against Polokwane City, Sundowns were looking at their players' performance and fitness since it was their first competitive game of the season. But now, with at least one game under their belt, they're gonna be more prepared, so I don't think people should expect the same Sundowns they saw against Polokwane City.

"Sundowns is gonna come out guns blazing. no disrespect to Stellies, especially at the level they are in terms of success. And they've got goals in them, Stellies, and they are one of the best teams in the country, you know. So, you can't write off a team that has goals and ambitions."
