Ramoreboli fires first salvo at Riveiro

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has received a tactical challenge from Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Morena Ramoreboli ahead of the anticipated CAF Champions League second preliminary round fixture.

After being knocked out by Galaxy in last season's second preliminary round on penalties, Riveiro would have drawn lessons from that defeat on penalties.

The Spaniard seemed to have underestimated the Botswana outfit judging by his line-up in the first leg, after Pirates travelled without two of their top strikers at the time, Zakhele Lepasa and Evidence Makgopa.

Instead, Riveiro gave a surprise start to Marou Souaibou in an unfamiliar line-up as they lost 1-0.

By the time they tried to turn things around at home, using their strongest team, they only won 1-0 and lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

Riveiro could be tempted to alter his line-up again against Galaxy, after Ramoreboli revealed he knows most Pirates players he coached when they were young, inside out.

"Pirates has players I coached when they were young. The reason why I have a huge interest when we play Pirates, I like it when I see some of the players I coached growing. I worked with Tshegofatso Mabasa when he was very young and I'm happy he has become a top player today," Ramoreboli said on Metro FM Sports.

"I've worked with Kabelo Dlamini and I'm happy to see him growing as well. I've worked with Sipho Chaine. So, playing against Pirates is more or less like I'm playing players I know how they think.

"I know all the passing patterns of Sipho Chaine. You can ask me when I wake up, I can tell you every time he puts the ball on the ground, this is the first pass he would want to make. I know what Tshego would want to do when he receives the ball. I know what Kabelo would do when he gets the ball. So, I know," the Free State native added.

Ramoreboli is also credited for spotting little known Thembinkosi Lorch during trials and giving him an opportunity while he was the coach at Maluti FET College, before he was eventually signed by Ezimnyama a couple of years later in 2015.
