Callies came close to qualifying for the Nedbank Cup final but for Chippa United slender 1-0 victory at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Prior to the semi-final encounter, the Romans were visited by Bafana legends Mark Williams, Edward Motale and Khumalo in their camp as part of Moses Malada's bid to revive the club's hopes of earning promotion to the top-flight football.
Speaking in an interview with snl24.com/kickoff, the club chairman says this initiative is also about helping to empower ex-football players in the country.
"It's a continuous exercise in terms of inviting the class of 1996. We had Neil Tovey and David Nyathi before. This is a way of helping our players to manage life both on and off the field," says Malada.
"This is also a way of them [ex- players] ploughing back – remember, not all of them are going to be football coaches, so this gives them a chance to share their football experience with these youngsters."
Malada has also cleared the air surrounding the presence of Jan 'Malombo' Lechaba in their camp ahead of the game against Chippa.
"Malombo is our former player. He is just helping us identify some of the ex-Pretoria Callies players. He is our legend and we're trying to bring back all our legends back to the club," he added.
