Pirates players to empty tank for Riveiro?

Erstwhile winger Dikgang Mabalane has issued a warning to the Orlando Pirates squad regarding the imminent exit of head coach Jose Riveiro and the multiple trophies still left to play for.

With the MTN8 already in the bag, Pirates still have the Nedbank Cup, the Betway Premiership and the CAF Champions League to play for this season.

Either of those titles will be considered a perfect send-off for Riveiro, who announced he would not be extending his stay beyond end of June.

However, Mabalane, part of the Bucs squad that famously won the double treble, has urged the players to put themselves under pressure in a bid to create a memorable send-off for the Spaniard.

"It's a good gesture, but then the question becomes the reality of it, the capacity and the pressure that comes with it. Do you have it in you physically and mentally to go all the way and win every cup?

"Alas, you don't want to put that kind of pressure on yourself. But the gesture, I think, is something that would be ideal and would be nice for the coach, as a send-off.

"But unfortunately, it doesn't just depend on you, the players. You have teams that will also want to win it, but if they (Pirates players) want to win it and they put their minds to it, it would be a good gesture to the coach," says 'Terminator', as he is fondly known.

The man who also played for the likes of Jomo Cosmos and SuperSport United believes Pirates players have it in them to give the tactician the perfect send-off as proven by their winning streak this season.

"And the standard of the game, I think they have raised it above what we have become accustomed to, and I think it would be something nice for the coach as well."
