'Nobody noticed I was peeing on myself...'

In this edition of In The Spotlight, former Orlando Pirates captain Eddie Dinha tells KickOff about his most embarrassing moment during a match.

The Zimbabwean-born Dinha is still based in South Africa following the end of his successful football career in the country.

Growing up, who was your idol?

"I used to like John Barnes. I'd cut his pictures in the magazine and put them in my schoolbooks or on the wall. I wanted to be like him."

Is he the player you modelled your game on?

"Yes, every time I went out on the streets, I wanted everybody to call me John Barnes. (It was up to) a certain age where I realized, I can't be like him."

Do you have a favourite club?

"Yes, Orlando Pirates, but I also have a soft spot for Mamelodi Sundowns."

Who is your best friend in football?

"I'm still in touch with Joseph Makhanya, Tso Vilakazi, Esrom Nyandoro, and Essau Mtsweni."

Your favourite PSL player at the moment?

"There is Relebohile Mofokeng, who is growing in every game, but obviously, you have to put Themba Zwane on top, I will put Relebohile as an upcoming."

If you could join a PSL team right now as a player, which team would you choose?

"I'd say Pirates, but I don't mind going to Sundowns too."

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you go?

"Madrid in Spain, for football reasons. Here in Africa, I think I'm happy here in South Africa, for the infrastructure, the facilities, and the football that is growing."

Who would you mostly like to meet?

"Definitely not Donald Trump [laughs]. I would have loved to meet Pele or Maradona."

What was the worst thing that happened to you during a match?

"I remember playing for CAPS United back home in Zimbabwe, and we were playing against Highlanders in Bulawayo, and it was raining. I had to use the bathroom, and right on the pitch, I decided to let go. But nobody noticed I was peeing on myself because it was raining."
