In this edition of My First, KickOff catches up with Orlando Pirates legend Steve 'Chippa' Lekoelea.
Lekoelea reveals that he started school at the age of nine.
My First School:
"It was at Tshidiso Primary School in Vaal. I don't remember if I was scared or not because I was very young at the time—around nine years old."
My First Kiss:
"It happened in Zone 11 in Vaal, where I grew up. I don't recall the year because I wasn't into girls, I was too afraid of them. I didn't know what to say to win them over."
My First Favourite Club:
"My favourite club was Moroka Swallows. I played for a team called Two For Joy FC, which was like a junior side to Swallows. We used to play wearing the old Swallows jersey with writing on the front."
My First Soccer Boots:
"I used to play in big takkies that we called 'ama futseg,' until my family bought me a pair of Puma soccer boots."
My First Goal:
"I scored my first goal against Bush Bucks while I was at Swallows. It felt like I was dreaming. That was in 1994, but I just can't remember the exact details of how it happened."
My First Individual Award:
"I received the Young Promising Player of the Year award at Orlando Pirates."
My First Trophy With A Club:
"My first trophy with Orlando Pirates was very special. I won so many trophies with Pirates that I don't even remember which one was the first. I was so happy to win trophies with such a big team while wearing jersey number 10, despite being a youngster back then."
My First Car:
"My first car was a Golf 1. I bought it for R9,000 from one of my friends, although he initially asked for R13,000."
