Saleng - 'We can beat Sundowns'

Winger Monnapule Saleng believes Orlando Pirates are well capable of securing a win over the favoured Mamelodi Sundowns when the two sides clash in an MTN8 semi-final return leg on Saturday.

Pirates got back to winning ways on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows thanks to a Saleng brace.

The star, who won the game's Man of the Match award, has insisted that if the Buccaneers can continue playing in similar fashion then they can beat Sundowns in their upcoming MTN8 semi-final clash.

"What we've been missing have been the goals, because the performance has been almost at 100%," Saleng told the club's media.

"I think even against Sundowns, if we can get the goals then we can beat Sundowns."

The two sides played to a goalless draw the last time they met at the Orlando Stadium, and the tie will now be settled at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Pirates will go into semi-final clash full of confidence after the victory against Arrows ended a run of four games without a win. It also showcased the ability of new signing Kermit Erasmus who provided both assists.

The 32-year-old striker will be under the spotlight when he faces his former employers on Saturday.

Meanwhile, competition defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns will also go into the match on the back of collecting three points against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere Kaizer Chiefs will lock horns with AmaZulu on Sunday to decide the who goes to the grand final to face either Pirates or Sundowns.

The Final will be played on 5 November 2022 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
