Ahead of the Soweto Derby Nedbank Cup final in May, KickOff analyses the pedigree of Orlando Pirates compared to Kaizer Chiefs.
Amakhosi were considered the cup kings of South African football and perhaps still are, considering they have won the Nedbank Cup a record 13 times, across all previous guises since the '70s.

However, ahead of the final on 10 May, they will not be happy they have actually won the tournament only once since Nedbank came on board. This was in 2013, following a 1-0 win over SuperSport United in the final, courtesy of a goal by Bernard Parker.
That season, they won a league and cup double.
Pirates will therefore feel more confident, given their last two consecutive triumphs in the competition have seen them equal Mamelodi Sundowns as the joint-most successful club since the sponsorship of the green bank in 2008, with four titles each.
They got their first green jackets in 2011 after come from behind to thrash Black Leopards 3-1 in the final, via a Thulasizwe Mbuyane, who also assisted an Isaac Chansa strike.

Three years later, the side were crowned champions again, hammering Wits by the same scoreline and also having trailed. Kermit Erasmus netted twice alongside Sfiso Myeni.
Bucs ended a nine-year wait for the trophy when they defeated Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the final in 2023, coming from behind yet again to triumph after a Tapelo Xoki penalty and last-gasp Terrence Dzvukamanja header.
Last season's title will arguably be the most memorable, after Jose Riveiro's men edged Sundowns 2-1 in the final thanks to goals from Patrick Maswanganyi (penalty) and Relebohile Mofokeng.
