Pirates to throw dice after being planted as odd one out

Orlando Pirates will spend the weekend as the only club still involved in the CAF Champions League with a game to play in between their quarterfinal commitments.

Pirates got a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory in Algiers on Tuesday night and upon their arrival back in Johannesburg will then continue to travel over 300km to Polokwane.

The trip to Limpopo will be for a league match against Polokwane City on Saturday (15:00) at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

That game is a catch-up fixture for Bucs, who have played four matches less than leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

While there are risks of injuries to key players, there is also the risk of Relebohile Mofokeng, Thalente Mbatha, and Tapelo Xoki picking up their fourth yellow cards and missing the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Patrick Maswanganyi – who didn't travel to Algeria – also has three yellow cards.

It is also a match that sets out Pirates as the only club with a game between the two legs of their CAF Champions League quarterfinals.

After playing on Tuesday, Sundowns will not be involved locally after their games against Stellenbosch FC was postponed and will instead begin the long trip to Tunis over the weekend.

Esperance are back at home preparing for Tuesday's hugely anticipated clash at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi.

With a slender 1-0 lead, Al Ahly's only focus for now is the away leg against Al Hilal at their adopted home in Nouakchott, Mauritania on Tuesday.

The Sudanese also have no other commitments in between.

Following their 4-1 win at home, Pyramids will not play any match before they travel to Morocco to face AS FAR, who had their cup game against Renaissance Zemamra scheduled for Friday called off.

MC Alger's weekend match in the domestic league against US Biskra was also postponed, paving the way for their long trip to Johannesburg to face Pirates under floodlights at Orlando on Wednesday.

After the Champions League, Pirates have Nedbank Cup commitments against Marumo Gallants on the weekend of April 12-13.
