Riveiro reveals Bucs' formula behind Rele, Nkota and Co

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed the secret behind the success of the club's academy graduates, with the likes Relebohle Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota.

With the MTN8 already in their cabinet, the Buccaners' chase for the treble remains very much alive. In large part that is thanks to club's academy graduates who have stepped this season when it mattered.

Mofokeng, whose growth can be largely accredited to the Transnet School of Excellence - is leading the youthful charge at Pirates with eight goals and eleven assists in 31 appearances this season.

Nkota has provided four goals and three assists in 19 appearances and Thabiso Sesane was arguably Pirates' most relied-on in the heart of the defence player prior to his recent injury.

Speaking to media after a 2-1 win over Cape Town City, Riveiro insisted that credit should not go to him but the club as a whole for identifying the talent.

"I think we have to give value to the whole club for good scouting in the early stages to have good players in our DDC, then give them the proper platform to showcase their talent, have good communication with different departments in the club," Riveiro said.

"And honest [conversations]. Then it's about finding the right moments for them, the right timing – this is my third season here, every season we try to create that space for them, Rele is a clear example but there's many more that will come in the future.

"It's not about Riveiro, it's about the club having a clear vision of the team that they want to have in future – and the way the talent, one of the talent pools for the club is, so we don't always have to go to the market when we have the right player, the right profile already."

Pirates still have plenty of talent coming through from their reserves with DDC captain Mbekezeli Mbokazi poined to be the next breakout star, as is Siyabonga Ndlozi.
