Rele: Why I'm grateful to Pirates supporters

Orlando Pirates' rising star Relebohile Mofokeng has opened up on the pressure of playing for one of the biggest team in the country and the continent.

Since his promotion to the first team, Mofokeng has seen more playing time in the senior time than most would have predicted. The 19-year-old has made 20 appearances across all competitions, starting nine matches and contributing two assists.

By the time he arrived at Pirates DStv Diski Challenge team, the SAFA Transnet School of Excellence product had already amassed somewhat of a cult-like following from his impressive performances at local tournaments in his hometown of Sharpeville in the Vaal.

While some his age may be daunted by the pressures of donning the black and gold for one of the biggest teams in South Africa and the continent, Mofokeng insists that the pressure is nothing new for the crowd favourites.

"Pressure will always be there in football; you must know how you handle it," Mofokeng told journalists at the launch of the MultiChoice Player Transition Programme on Monday.

"I played in the townships where there was pressure and I am used to it, so it was not a big deal.

"I also appreciate the support from the supporters and they never put me under pressure at the beginning when I was finding my feet."

The move to Pirates and allowed Mofokeng to reach one of his lifelong dreams of playing alongside his childhood idol, Thembinkosi Lorch.

"In South Africa, the player I looked up to, is Thembinkosi Lorch because I play in his position and he is the best in that position," added Mofokeng.

The teenager will be aiming to keep his place when Pirates return to DStv Premiership when they take on Chippa United.
