'Performances are more important' - Riveiro on Pirates' top 3 position

Head coach Jose Riveiro insists he is more concerned about the performances than results as Orlando Pirates climbed back into the top three of the DStv Premiership.

The Buccaneers made it four wins from five league matches when they registered a 2-1 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Sunday.

Goals came from Patrick Maswanganyi and Karim Kimvuidi, while Nduduzo Sibiya scored for the home side.

The win propels Pirates up to third place on the Premiership, just a point behind second placed SuperSport United and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are yet to drop points this season.

Pirates head coach Riveiro however, says he is not entirely focused on the log table but rather on the performance of his team.

"I'm happy with the recent performances," Riveiro said during his press conference.

"The results, I'm not in control of that. I think we played an excellent game but what happens if they score in the last minute of added time? The performance would still be the same.

"So, the consistency must be in the performances and the intentions and then we try and control the results as much as possible.

"We should have finished the game the last 15 minutes with maybe two or three goals of advantage and not really under stress. It's a scoring game, 2-1 we will take it but for me, the performance are more important than the results.

In October, Riveiro admitted that the Buccaneers do have one eye on the League title, claiming that is was the most important cup to win.

"It's a fact we haven't won the league in a long time," Riveiro said.

"The league is the most important competition. [You play] 30 games away and home against everybody in every type of circumstance, under hot and raining [conditions]. So it's the most important competition and we really want to find our rhythm in that competition."
