AmaZulu jumped to fifth place on the Betway Premiership table through a 2-0 win over Cape Town City on Sunday afternoon.
The suspension of Lorenzo Gordinho handed Sibusiso Ziba a start, while Gabriel Amato came in for Haashim Domingo. For Usuthu, Elmo Kambindu returned to lead the attack.
Kambindu enjoyed a solid return midway in the first half and moved a few yards to the back-post of the area to tap in Tshepang Moremi's left-footed cross
AmaZulu were well in control thereafter and pinned the Citizens who struggled to come alive and have a solid go at their counterparts from KwaZulu-Natal.
No substitutions were made before the commencement for the second half, as Usuthu looked to maintain their advantage with City in search of a response.
The Citizens fell behind again inside the final quarter as a long throw-in by Riaan Hanamub was flicked on by Moremi for Nkosikhona Radebe, who headed in at the back-post.
City brought on 16-year-old Emile Witbooi to make his top flight debut, a player who not so long ago went for assessment at English giants Chelsea and sacrificed Kayden Francis.
The Citizens didn't lose hope but still fancied chances, as Jaedin Rhodes dragged a probing effort from a decent area narrowly off target.
Rhodes enjoyed more penetrations in the latter third, but once more failed to trouble Usuthu goalkeeper Richard Ofori after meeting Tshegofatso Nyama's supply.
The late flurry of chances continued as full-time beckoned, however Usuthu absorbed the pressure coming their way and walked away with the maximum points.
