Kaizer Chiefs extended their winless run to three matches in the Betway Premiership following a 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows on Saturday afternoon.
Alterations for the Amakhosi saw Yusuf Maart, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Gaston Sirino start ahead of Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Pule Mmodi and Mduduzi Shabalala.
The ideal start looked on the cards ten minutes in as Glodly Lilepo won a penalty following a foul in the box, but skipper Maart couldn't capitalise after hitting the upright.
Abafana Besthende upped the ante and got in front when Knox Mutizwa played a telling pass in space for Nduduzo Sibiya to slot in the back of the net.
Maart made amends for the miss from the spot-kick a minute to the half-hour mark and applied a solid finish from an assist by Sirino.
Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi made a change before halftime – bringing on Ayabulela Maxwele in the place of Thokozani Lukhele.
However, not much changed in the second half as they dominated for large periods without creating much in the final third while Arrows were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.
Coach Nasreddine Nabi had seen enough and decided to throw on the returning Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala for the final 30 minutes, with Ashley du Preez and Ngcobo making way in the attack.
That did not make a difference as the home side went on to bag the winning goal as Knox Mutizwa fired home Siyanda Mthanti's cross in the box to take his tally to seven career goals against Chiefs.
