The Amakhosi featured two changes from the win over Stellenbosch FC as Dillon Solomons featured ahead of Reeve Frosler with Mduduzi Shabalala in for Pule Mmodi.
An uncomfortable start saw Chiefs nearly concede through a close-range header by Nathan Fasika following a corner, but Bruce Bvuma was on high alert to make the save.
Chiefs showed a bit of purpose later on as Gaston Sirino, Glody Lilepo and Thabo Cele overloaded the edge of the six-yard box and pinned the defence.
The Amakhosi didn't stop probing around the half-hour mark as Sirino came short to the near post and dropped a shoulder to curl wide of the far post.
Shabalala almost made the opening before halftime after Fasika conceded possession in his own area, but the former went well beyond the bottom-corner.
Chiefs looked to the bench at the start of the second half and showed George Matlou an entry ahead of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Lilepo went inches to the opener minutes in when he dropped a shoulder wide of the area to curl against the top of the crossbar with Darren Keet well beaten.
City worked an equally solid threat towards the midway quarter of the half as Fortune Makaringe's first-time shot from the area forced Bvuma to a point-blank save.
Both teams enjoyed moments to get the all-important breakthrough, but were undone by the delivery of the final ball, mis-placed passes and poor decision-making.
Chiefs got a perfect chance in the last five minutes when substitute Mmodi came in on the far side and curled towards the top corner, but Keet made a fine stop.
The Soweto giants continued to push numbers as the minutes went, but couldn't find a way in and goalless it finished.
