Throughout his coaching journey, Vilakazi has won two DStv Diski Challenge titles, and has even coached in the Betway Premiership.

During a live broadcast of the DStv Diski Challenge on Saturday, Vilakazi explained to the television panel how chairlady Mato Madlala of Abafana Bes'thende encouraged him to take up coaching.
"When I first started coaching in the MDC [MultiChoice Diski Challenge], I never intended to be a coach; I was pushed into it," he said.
"Mato insisted, 'No, no, no, you played football, go and do this.'
"I accepted because I felt no pressure at the time.
"However, after winning it the first time, I realised I might have a potential. I thought I should take it seriously, perhaps further my studies and achieve those coaching badges.
"When we won the title for the second time, that's when I acknowledged that I could be a good coach," he said.

Currently, Vilakazi is without a club after parting ways with AmaZulu FC, where he worked alongside Arthur Zwane as co-coaches.
It is believed that 'personal issues' contributed to the former striker's decision to take a break from coaching.
