Premier Soccer League strugglers Cape Town Spurs have entered the race to sign free agent Darrel Matsheke.
Matsheke is currently free to join a team of his choice following his release from Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC.
He is a product of the Kaizer Chiefs development, and in 2020was promoted to the club's senior tea, from where he had loan stints with the likes of Uthongathi FC and Moroka Swallows.
In 2023, the midfielder permanently left the Soweto giants and found a new home in the Winelands, where he was released after six months.
Spurs are believed to be in pole position to sign the influential defensive-midfielder, who is also linked with Orlando Pirates, as they look to survive relegation.

But according to sources, the move to the Urban Warriors might only happen next season.
The 25-year-old has been impressive form for Stellies this season as he helped them win their first major trophy.
Though his contract was canceled prematurely, Matsheke will not be short of suitors as several clubs have started enquiring about his availability.
Gerald Baloyi, who is the player's agent, confirmed interest in his client.
"Yes, I have spoken to a few teams about the player, but most of them they want him for next season. But they did enquire," he shares.
"Some of the teams are asking about the allegations, but we need to sit down and see who is bringing the right offer."

Spurs are still stuck at the bottom of the table with only 12 points gathered in 20 matches played so far. To survive the axe, they will need to make the most of their 10 remaining matches.
They still have to face the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, amongst others.
