UPDATE: New PSL log revealed!

In the surest sign yet that Royal AM have indeed been expelled from the NSL, the League has come out with updated Betway Premiership log standings.

The Royal AM matter has dominated local football discussions since the turn of the year, after the club’s financial owes contributed to their failure to commit to honouring fixtures going forward.

As a result, efforts were made to sell the club’s status to the highest bidder via a SARS curator, with the taxman having taken the steering wheel in running the KZN outfit in attempts to recoup a R40 million debt reportedly owed to it by club chairlady Shauwn Mpisane.

A recent PSL Board of Governors meeting resolved to ‘kick out’ Thwihli Thwahla, with it having become as clear as daylight that they would not be able to complete the season after playing a mere 11 league games.

Mkhize tried, to no avail, to appeal the matter, signalling a death knell to a club that has had its fair share of controversies since buying the status of Bloemfontein Celtic at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

Now, the PSL has revealed a new-look league table on their official website, with Royal AM placed 16th and with zero games played.

All points gained by teams who had faced them – be it a win or a draw – were expunged.

The result is that log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns now have 22 games played and 55 points collected as opposed to 23 and 58.

Second-placed Orlando Pirates, therefore, have two games in hand and not three, the sort of news they would welcome considering their hectic schedule that has included CAF Champions League games.

With two games chopped off, 28 is the number of league matches every team will have played by the end of the season.

The League is expected to release a statement soon to give the latest update on all things Royal AM.
