Magoola to Chiefs on the cards?

With Kaizer Chiefs expected to bid farewell to legendary Itumeleng Khune, Richards Bay FC goalkeeper Salim Magoola's agency have responded to reports linking the Ugandan with a move to Naturena.

Chiefs announced ahead of their final home game of the past season, against Polokwane City, that they would be honouring Khune for 25 years of service at the club, which was a clear indication that he would no longer be in their roster ahead of 2024/25.

The Glamour Boys have had somewhat of a goalkeeping crisis since Khune started being sidelined in the last few seasons, with neither Brandon Petersen nor Bruce Bvuma staking a strong claim to the number one spot.

Bvuma had decent performances towards the end of last year after Cavin Johnson was appointed as interim coach, but the woes in goal continued in the second round of the season, where they finished bottom of the 2024 log.

The Soweto giants are yet to announce any arrival or incoming personnel, but there is work being done behind the scenes to acquire new players while releasing some.

With Chiefs set to strengthen their goalkeeping department, Magoola, one of the highly-rated shot-stoppers in the country, is reportedly on their radar.

When asked if the Ugandan could possibly be the man to fill the gap left by Khune, Mike Makaab, CEO of ProSport International admitted that the deal could happen.

"If there is interest obviously, yes, but we have to be very careful. It's our duty not to create hype in this sort of a thing. But I rate him very highly as a goalkeeper," Makaab says, speaking exclusively to KickOff.

"Let's just wait and see what transpires."

Magoola helped the Natal Rich Boyz retain their status in the DStv Premiership after finishing the play-offs campaign with only one goal conceded.
