Bafana Bafana's year-end FIFA world ranking revealed

Following a win over Mozambique and a draw against Angola last month, Bafana Bafana's final FIFA world ranking for the 2022 calendar year has been revealed.

Hugo Broos' side ended their 2022 international campaign by recording a 2-1 win over neighbours Mozambique before being held to a 1-1 draw by Angola in the second of two international friendlies three days later.

Despite the positive results, which saw South Africa enjoy a marginal points increase from 1349.59 to 1350.36, the men's national team has not moved positions in the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday and remain ranked 67th on the globe.

Bafana Bafana end the calendar year one place ahead of their position from 2021, and four ahead of their year-end rankings for 2020 and 2019, respectively, indicating that their has been a small degree of improvement over the last 12 months.

The situation is still a far-cry from 1996 when South Africa's CAF Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad ended the year in 19th position, having found themselves as high as 15th at one point, and in 2000, when they last featured in the top 20.

Broos and his charges' current ranking puts them 12th on the continent, where Morocco (11) have usurped reigning AFCON champions Senegal (19) for top spot after earlier this month becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup.
