Kabelo Seriba links up with Amajita for Netherlands trip ahead of U-20 FIFA World Cup

Seriba, who plays for FS Metta, will be part of the travelling contingent to the Netherlands where the South Africans will play three practice matches as part of preparations for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Seriba was previously with Amajita but missed the 2017 edition of the CAF U-20 African Cup of Nations in Zambia, where South Africa finished in fourth place.

He is fully aware, however, that he is not guaranteed a spot in the final 21-man squad, and knows that only hard work will help him make the cut.

"I am fully aware that this is a preliminary squad and that I will have to earn my place in the team," said Seriba.

"We have quality in every department and players are very hungry and itching to go to the World Cup, so I am not different. It would be a great honour to represent my country in South Korea, but I know I will not walk into the team. I will have to work very hard to ensure I secure my place on the plane to the tournament."

Seriba is neverthless happy to be back home.

"It always feels good to be back home and playing for my country. It can get very cold in Latvia, which is in northern Europe - so I truly appreciate coming back to South Africa and enjoying the African warmth. I arrived last night [Sunday] but I can tell you now that I have already shifted my mind to training because we all know there is a lot of work to be done and I just want to earn my place in the team,” added Seriba.

Seriba last represented Amajita in December 2016 in Rustenburg. He was part of the squad that came second in the COSAFA Cup tournament after going down 2-1 to the Junior Chipolopolo of Zambia in the final.

The South Africans will travel to Netherlands on Wednesday where they will play practice matches against Feyenoord F.C, Ajax Amsterdam and PEC Zwolle on 29 April, 30 April and 2 May respectively.

Amajita are expected back in the country on Thursday, 4 May to continue with their World Cup preparations.
