Amajita crowned COSAFA Cup champions

South Africa secured the COSAFA Cup under-20 title after defeating Zambia 2-0 in the final on Saturday afternoon.

Jody Ah Shene, Shandre Campbell, Siyabonga Mabena, Lazola Maku picked out the South African starting compartment, whereas Shakeel April and Kultwano Letlhaku got to feature on the bench.

Raymond Mdaka's young brigade had enjoyed a fruitful tenure in the tournament to date and edged Angola by a narrow margin to enter the final.

The opening against the neighbouring Chipolopolo wasn't so easy though given the latter had seen off the pre-tournament favourites Zimbabwe in the last four in midweek.

Nonetheless, Amajita bagged full control in the opening-quarter of the contest and were in the lead through a finish from Campbell who now plies his trade at Club Brugge in Belgium.

Amajita continued to run proceedings from here on end and duly extended the tally courtesy of the semi-final match-winner Ahshene.

In the second half, the men of Mdaka were able to weather the storm in the Chipolopolo's pursuit to overturn the contest and grab full control.

The above though didn't materialise as the young South African outfit managed to hold ground and ultimately went on to clinch the title.

Amajita not only have the title in their grasp but will be participating in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations u20 tournament next year too.
