Billiat in prompt return to SA

Khama Billiat's decision to move back home has paid dividends, with the former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns forward now set to face Bafana Bafana.

While Billiat has made no commitment about coming out of retirement from international football, he has been named in the Warriors squad to play Lesotho and Bafana in June.

It was in November 2021 that Billiat announced his retirement from international football at the end of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

However, having now moved back home where he is rediscovering his form after the injury issues in his last season at Chiefs, Billiat has been included in the national team by Jairos Tapera.

The Warriors will 'host' Lesotho at Orlando on June 7 at Orlando Stadium, before they travel to Bloemfontein to meet Bafana on June 11.

A squad list leaked from ZIFA has Billiat included along Teenage Hadebe, Gerald Takwara, Divine Lunga, Marshall Munetsi and Walter Musona in the list of those that have previously played in South Africa.

The Zimbabwe squad has 15 players based in Europe and only one playing in South Africa.

Billiat has been the star man since arriving at Yadah, where he has led the attack.

The move back home came after spending almost 14 years in South Africa playing for Ajax Cape Town, Sundowns and Chiefs.

His time in the DStv Premiership meant he scored 97 goals and earned the admiration and respect of many despite his struggles at Chiefs, where his last real action came in October 2022, when he lasted 79 minutes in the Soweto Derby.
