Links' latest heroics met by Bafana snub

Flying wingback Gift Links has started the season in fine form, registering a goal and two assists during AGF Aarhus's win over Vejle BK, thus raising more questions about his absence from Bafana Bafana.

The 25-year-old contributed seven assists and two goals in his 36 appearances for the Danish top-flight outfit last season.

That return led to the player being included in the Danish Superliga's Team of The Season.

Links has seemingly carried that form into the new season, notably delivering a Man of the Match performance as Aarhus hammered Vejle 5-1 on Monday evening.

Goals came from Felix Bejimo, Mikael Andersen, Mads Medsen and the South African himself.

For all his efforts, the Rustenburg-born wingback continues to be a surprise absence from the Bafana Bafana set-up as he does not feature in the latest preliminary squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.

Head coach Hugo Broos said he would keep the door open for selecting Links for future camps.

"It's not because today we say he's not good enough that he won't be good enough in a year if he progresses" Broos responded when asked about the star's absence back in June.

"So, we will follow [him] and see next season. So, for him, if next season he can do the same performances, then okay then I have to change my mind."

Meanwhile, Monday's win was a third straight one for AGF and takes them up to fourth in the Superliga after five matches played so far this season.

Links and Co. will have their next chance to climb further up the table when they take on AaB Fodbold.
