Ramovic: What PSL lacks for more growth

Former TS Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic has reflected on what the PSL need to improve on to become the best in Africa.

Ramovic built a name for himself in South Africa after he brought the best out of unknown and unfancied players, who were then signed by the big clubs at a huge rate over two-and-a-half seasons.

Thanks to the Serb-German, Galaxy were able to take the careers of players such Bathusi Aubaas, Given Msimango, Tshegofatso Nyama, Djakaridja Traore, Aphelele Teto and recently Lehlohonolo Mojela, among others, to another level.

However, the selling model seemingly came at a cost after Ramovic resigned prior to the FIFA break due to a poor start to the season.

In an exclusive interview with KickOff.com, after he being appointed new coach of Young Africans, the former Wolfsburg goalkeeper says the PSL has much more potential to produce quality young players and need a better structure.

"South African football holds a special place in my heart," Ramovic offers.

"It's a league with immense talent and potential, marked by unique flair and passion. However, I believe there is room for more structured youth development and pathways to ensure young players reach their potential consistently.

"The league's growth on a continental level remains promising, and with continuous investment and focused vision, South Africa can reclaim its status as one of Africa's premier football powerhouses," he added.

The 45-year-old coach also shared his vision and what he brings to his new club, Tanzanian giants Young Africans.

"My vision as Head Coach at Yanga is to build upon the club's rich history and successes by fostering a culture of excellence, discipline, and unity.

"I aim to create a team that not only dominates on the pitch but also embodies the spirit and pride of the fans. My focus is on player development, tactical innovation, and maintaining the club's competitive edge in both domestic and continental competitions, with an eye on long-term sustainability and youth integration."
