More European recognition for Ngezana

Fresh off being named the Superliga Defender of the Season by a renowned publication in Romania, South African defender Siyabonga Ngezana has received more recognition with yet another honour.

Ngezana has enjoyed a week full of reasons to celebrate as he was named the Defender of the Season at the 2024 Fanatik Super Gala last Tuesday. The event and title were awarded by Fanatik RO - an independent news publication in Romania.

He also walked away with the Best Foreign Player Award at the 2024 Romanian Football Gala, just hours later.

However, the honours did not end there, the former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back was also named as part of the SuperLiga BEST XI.

The news comes as little surprise to those following the 27-year-old's progress in Romania.

The Sebokeng-born star has made 21 appearances across all competitions for FCSB and has established himself as a key figure in a side that won last season's league title and came just short of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League proper, falling into the Europa League, where they are progressing well.

Ngezana is also considered a vital part of Hugo Broos' side that will head to the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next year.

He played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over South Sudan in November, and will be in action for his side on Wednesday evening in Cupa Romaniei action against Universitatea Craiova.
