CONFIRMED: Quick return for Chiefs defender

Edmilson Dove has needed only 270 minutes of game-time at Kaizer Chiefs to get himself back on the international stage.

Prior to his return to play against Mamelodi Sundowns on March 1, Dove had last featured for Chiefs at the beginning of May 2024.

From there, he went home to join Mozambique's squad for the COSAFA Cup but was withdrawn on the eve of the start of the tournament when his club recalled him.

Amakhosi then took him to their pre-season camp in Turkey, where he suffered a career-threatening injury, which has meant he only returned to action this year.

With his return, he is now registered as one of five foreign players at the club along Inacio Miguel (Angola), Fiacre Ntwari (Rwanda), Edson Castillo (Venezuela), and Glody Makabi Lilepo (DR Congo).

The three games that he has played have earned him a call-up to the Mambas squad for the two World Cup qualifiers against Uganda (March 20) and Algeria (March 25).

Dove had been named in the provisional squad and has now been retained in the list of players due to report for camp on Monday in Maputo.

The 30-year-old last played for his national team at the AFCON finals in January 2024.

The Mozambicans have also included veteran winger Elias Pelembe.

Pelembe has over 100 caps and played in South Africa from 2007 until 2023, featuring for SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, Polokwane City, and Royal AM.

Polokwane City midfielder Manuel Kambala has been dropped along with Luis Miquissone, who was formerly on the Mamelodi Sundowns books.
